About the event
When USA President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden reignited the Cancer Moonshot (highlighted by the Lancet as Cancer Moonshot 2.0), they set ambitious, achievable goals: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years, and improve the experience of people and families living with and surviving cancer, ultimately ending cancer as we know it today. They called for everyone to do their part including federal agencies and departments, private companies, health care providers, patient groups, philanthropies, and more. While the immediate goals are domestic, the ambitions of the Cancer Moonshot extend far beyond the borders of the United States, especially as the burden of cancer falls heavily to lower- and middle-income countries, where 80% of global cancer deaths occur. International work as part of the Cancer Moonshot is focused on equity and collaboration, thereby increasing access to prevention, screening, treatment, and care for everyone facing a cancer diagnosis and their families around the world.
While the USA has made treemdous progress on cancer, we have reached a time where win-win international collaborations are needed to accelerate advances towards achieving the goals of the Cancer Moonshot in the USA and Globally. Outcomes of the GHC summit in Bangladesh are expected to include, win-win collaborations on multi-center clinical trials, extension of the Global Oncology University and Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Cloud collaboration initiatives to to South East Asia, and development of a Lancet Oncology series to guide policy for advancing the Cancer Moonshot goals to Asia.
This will be an in-person event with high participation by key delegates of the 2023 Bangladesh International Cancer Congress.
