In February 2022, President Joe Biden reignited the Cancer Moonshot (highlighted by the Lancet as Cancer Moonshot 2.0), setting ambitious, achievable goals: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years, and improve the experience of people and families living with and surviving cancer, ultimately ending cancer as we know it today. In July 2024, President Donald Trump declared, “We will unleash the power of American innovation, and as we do, we will soon be on the verge of finding the cures to cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and many other illnesses." These actions reflect a common commitment by U.S. presidents against cancer, a leading cause of death and economic hardship in the USA.
